Jeri, as she prefers to be called, was born and raised in Ojai, California. Her artistic talents appeared at an early age when her artwork was used in her elementary school’s first newspaper. After high school graduation she attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles, California, as an art major. She moved to NYC, New York where she worked for a film production company. She then relocated to LosAngeles and worked in Century City on the “Mr. Ed” (the talking horse) set. While living there she met her husband, Richard. They moved to Michigan raised a family and retired. Her husband of 54 years passed in November 2016.
Jeri studied oil painting through a program sponsored by the Traverse City Counsel for the Arts. While she enjoys drawing with pen and charcoal as well as painting with oils, acrylics and water colors, she really enjoys the relative new art form of Zentangle the best. Her work is done on gourds has been a truly enjoyable and relaxing pastime. Although she has been professionally trained she considers herself to be pretty much “self-taught.” Growing up in Ojai, California was a gift as we were surrounded with a very active community of artsy people. “My neighbor up the road was Beatrice Wood, the world respected potter.”
Jeri is presently serving her community as a Grayling Charter Township Trustee and volunteers at Munson Healthcare-Grayling Hospital.
