In less than 45 days AuSable Artisan Village reached its crowdfunding goal of $25,000. “I am so overwhelmed by the generosity and support of this community,” commented Terry Dickinson, director of Artisan Village. “The support came from every sector of the community from private individuals, our board members, the artists, the business community and the industry in our area. It is both exciting and humbling to see this level of generosity.”
The crowdfunding campaign launched on December 21st and ended on January 31st. The staff at Patronicity, the crowdfunding website, coached and advised the volunteer team at Artisan Village to ensure a successful outcome.
In late November, 2016 AuSable Artisan Village, located in downtown Grayling, was approved for a crowd-granting opportunity to raise funds for some much needed capital improvements including the renovation of the basement into a classroom for children and adults called the “Creativity Center.”
Crowd-granting is collaboration between the crowdfunding web site, Patronicity, and Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). Artisan Village set a crowdfunding goal of $25,000 and now that it has been reached, MEDC and MSHDA will match their effort with an additional $25,000.
By utilizing volunteers to complete tasks that do not require licensed professionals Artisan Village will be able to stretch the crowd-granting funds well beyond its face value.
A performance stage is being constructed in the art gallery to enhance the concert experience as well as creating an opportunity for open mic and live drama. The cost of the stage is being underwritten by Mike Chires, owner of several radio stations including WUPS 98.5. Sound technicians from the radio station will assist in setting up a professional sound system and offer advice on how to maximize the overall sound quality.
“Communities are stronger when they are enriched by an active cultural society. The positive impact The AuSable Artisan Village Art Center is having on Grayling and surrounding communities is simply amazing. I applaud the committee and all the volunteers for their effort and vision.
98.5 UPS is proud to donate the Performing Arts Stage to Artisan Village, where musicians can entertain our great community for years to come”, said Mike Chires co-owner of 98.5 UPS and Black Diamond Broadcasting
