I have had a Grayling connection for my entire life. In the 1950’s my mothers’ family moved from West Germany and settled in Grayling. My Oma and Opa resided there through the remainder of their years. My mother moved to Troy, Michigan in the 60’s and married. I have many fond memories of visiting and staying in Grayling throughout my youth. Upon my grandparents passing my mother and father moved back to Grayling where they still reside today. It has been my home away from home.
I have drawn and painted all of my life concentrating my studies in commercial art through high school graduating with honors and a special recognition in art award. Straight out of high school I continued my studies at the College for Creative Studies where I graduated with a BFA in graphic design. I then worked at Gonzalez Graphic design for 2 years. Upon their closing I worked for several years as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator.
Shifting gears I took a position with Fournier Enterprises where I worked for 7 years as their artist and painter working with automotive paint on scale model Indy and sprint cars. This allowed me to branch my work out to painting racing helmets and hockey goalie masks. I then started painting motorcycles, racecars and hot rods.
I continued custom painting Motorcycles for Indian Motorcycles where I worked for 2 years. Upon their closing I was hired by Classic and Exotic Services. Here I learned the art of pin striping on vintage classic automobiles. I am still employed at C&E where I work on classic and custom cars and motorcycles of all varieties as well as helmets, goalie masks, and virtually anything that paint will stick to. I have been at C&E for the past 15 years. I have over 25 years of experience working as a custom painter.
I have also been writing for the past 6 years for Auto Art Magazine. My articles are how-to informative articles, artist spotlight articles, and event coverage. I fill my in-between time at the College for Creative Studies where I teach a course on custom airbrushing and pin striping. I also work in the CCS transportation department where I paint scale model concept cars for the students.
Recently I have been working on aircraft aluminum using a metal grinder with an airbrush and automotive paint. My work is currently featured in several galleries. Original works are available. I am also taking commissions for illustrations on metal as well as custom airbrush and pin stripe work on vehicles and goalie masks.
I will be married 20 years this October to my beautiful wife, Kimberly. We have 2 wonderful children, Sydney and Lyle.
