My love of landscapes comes from growing up on a farm in western Michigan. My appreciation for woods, rivers and lakes has been inspired by visiting many forests, parks and trout streams. Most of my oil paintings are based on photos my husband and I take on fishing trips and vacations. I’m always looking for compositions that inspire me to paint a scenic place that I’m connected to. In addition to river and country scenes I also enjoy painting still life flower arrangements .
Although I’ve always dabbled in various craft arts over the years, I didn’t start oil painting until I retired early from a career of teaching blind and visually impaired children. I have had instruction from three wonderful artists and attended workshops to continue developing my skills.
After attending Michigan State University, my family and I have lived in Kansas, Illinois, New Hampshire, New York, Nebraska and Pennsylvania, before returning to Michigan in 2011. We recently purchased a cottage on the Manistee River and love spending time in the woods, fishing, kayaking, and exploring Northern Michigan.
